in addition, the kit has all the hardware, pipes to fit the GTI. It is designed around the stock bumper, so its basically plug and play.
1650 for a FMIC.. is damn good value for money. if i had a GTI this would be no brainer mod..
Looks awesome man... its thicker than the S3 intercooler. I love the way VF has shaped the end tanks with a smooth curve from pipe to the bar-plate section. No doubt a well-engineered product. :thumbsup
It looks thinker than Forge FMIC as well and price is better too ...2 bad that already installed forge liao :wacky

saint, there are 2 fmics now available .. one from bell intercooler, the other from another comnpany. ask ur friend to go check out the S40 forum at swedespeed, the links are there.
prices are from 600-800USD, shipping is another 150 or thereabouts.

they did a dyno after install on a swedespeed forummers car.. so the figures look pretty good.. about 23whp gained

Here are the answers to your questions...
(1) Is this application suitable for a car that does lots of town driving?
Yes it is. In fact it will be perfect due to our climate. If you're tuned, even better.
(2) How does it affect performance i.e low end versus high end?
As with all intercooler upgrades, there will be very minimal loss in low end but your high end will deifnitely sustain. You will be able to maintain your ambient temps all day long even in the afternoon heat. you will feel like you're driving on a cool rainy night all day.
(3) How heavy is it?
The core is much thicker and longer, it will be approximately 10% heavier then the stock IC.
(4) stock intercooler removed?
Yes. The stock intercooler sits behind the radiator and will be unused. You can choose to leave it there, but it serves no purpose but dead weight. The VF FMIC will sit infront behind the lower front bumper, unlike the S3 or some aftermarket ICs which sits in the tiny area behind the radiator. Moreover, the VF FMIC will sit on the lower region of your front bumper, so air will still reach the radiator with no problems.
(5) I know this comes with the relevant piping but are they of sound quality such that the clamps and all will be well done/ made and no issue of failure.
They are of top notch quality. The Piping is powder coated black to protect it from the elements, and from knocks and scrapes during the install process. in fact the throttle body pipe(D)($550) comes standard with the kit

You know what? I have gotten rid of the GTi grille and am now running the GT grille. So this damn thing is going to be so obvious, more so than the S3 sitting in the pit now :jump Exciting exciting.

GB Price is not applicable anymore as it was a one off. But FMIC price have been reduced from VF. Call obt solutions for details.
